Banco Chinchorro is an atoll that stands 35 nautical miles off the coast of Mahahual (sometimes referred to as Costa Maya). Thanks to its remote location, the reef is nearly untouched and incredibly healthy.
During this dive trip, you will explore sites that few divers have ever seen! Very few dive shops have mapped Chinchorro and only a handful will take you to the outskirts. Our dive shop in Mahahual is an expert in the area and the sites are only newly explored. Most days we will not see other boats or divers in the water.
Explore Mahahual is a great first trip for those new to dive travel, while still offering incredible diving for those who blow bubbles abroad often! The most difficult part of this trip is the boat ride to Banco Chinchorro, which is about an hour long and can sometimes be rough.

The Logistics
✈️ Airport
You arrange your flight to Cancun Airport (CUN) to arrive in the morning or early afternoon
🚗 Transport to Mahahual
Mar Hosted Trips arranges a private van to pick you up at your airport terminal.
Once we are all together, we begin our 5-hour drive south to Mahahual
We will stop for food/snacks and at the ATM
🏨 Accommodations
Our boutique hotel is right on the beach and only steps from the dive shop and dive boats. Oh, and the food is incredible! Trip pricing is based on double occupancy, but upgrading to a single room is also possible for a small fee for those who prefer their own space.

Maira picks cool places where she can help build local economy. Our hotel was a very cool place to stay in Mahahual, very local, wonderful, kind, sweet staff, and the best chef ever! The experience of diving in a fairly new area, Banco Chinchorro, was exciting! AND 2 of us got the opportunity to be the first 2 to get our PADI Lionfish Hunting Certification at this shop, where the divemasters and boat crew were experienced and awesome!
