Welcome to the Mar Hosted Trips experience! Here are some common questions we hear before divers take their first adventure with us.
Still not sure? Feel free to contact us and we’ll answer your questions directly!
Before Booking a Trip
1. Determine your travel and dive comfort level
2. Check out our available Upcoming Trips
3. Contact us to register!
Maybe! While our trips are designed with divers in mind, we are able to bring along non-divers and snorkelers on some trips. Just send us a message to find out which trips can accommodate non-divers.
Yes, yes, 1000 times yes!
This is our specialty. We design group trips so people who don’t have buddies in their lives can come and find community and travel friends.
Actually, most of our travelers arrive not knowing anyone on the trip.
We have developed our own personality quiz to pair up buddies based on experience and skill level. You never have to worry about holding someone back or not fitting in to the group 🫶
No! All our trips are priced based on double occupancy, but we provide you with your roommate.
We have a thorough personality quiz we have developed over the years to match our guests based on how their like their room temp, if they snore, like to nap after a dive, etc.
We’re pretty proud of our ability to pair our travellers, we have a history of creating new best friends from our roommate and dive buddy pairings!
Not always – we price our trips based on double occupancy, but most of our trips have the option to pay a supplement so you can have your own room.
Availability is limited depending on the destination, so let us know when you sign up that you’d like that upgrade!
Adults only – our trips are designed for grown-ups, sorry! But we have taken older teens as young as 16-years-old on trips. As long as they are old enough to dive the same profiles as the group, they can come!
NO! We have an incredible variety of divers on our trips. From 16-80+ years old.
Most of our divers are 30-60, but we definitely don’t have a “typical” age group on our trips.
Preparing for Your MHT Experience
Once you have registered for a trip, you are added to our WhatsApp group chat for that trip.
You can find everything you need in the group chat by following these instructions.
Yes! For your safety, all MHT divers are required to obtain dive insurance. This protects you if you have a diving related incident.
We also recommend Travel Insurance. This protects you if you can’t attend the trip for any reason, your bag is lost, flight delays, etc.
Diving is considered an “extreme sport” by most insurance companies, so it’s not usually covered on regular travel insurance.
We recommend Divers Alert Network or Dive Assure.
…and on Wednesdays, we wear pink.
A silly pop culture reference that has become a cornerstone of our Scuba MAR Maids trips.
And it’s exactly what it sounds like! On Wednesdays during our trip, we like to wear pink and do some extra photo taking before the dives.
Money & Cancellations
Our full booking, cancellations, and payment policy can be found on our bookings page. But here are some common questions.
Our trips are paid on a payment schedule consisting of a deposit, installment payments, and final payment.
Invoices are sent through Square, and can be paid by credit card, ACH deposits, or through Zelle. See the trip flyer for exact instructions.
The unique thing about MHT is that all our trips are one-of-a-kind, working with local operators in each location we go.
This unfortunately means that when you pay for a trip, the money has to stay on that trip and can’t be moved around.
If you can no longer attend a trip, you need to cancel, and then rebook on a new trip that works for you!
Common Gear Questions
We have a full page of our website devoted to our favourite dive gear recommendations, but here are some common questions we get.
No! Most of our trips have rental gear available at the location. We recommend waiting to buy gear until you have and idea of what will work well for you.
We do require every diver have their own dive computer. You can either rent or buy, but we recommend buying a computer.
Group trips are a great place to learn about dive gear – you get to see what everyone else uses!
We are big fans of Waterlust here at MHT. Their stuff will withstand years of diving, running, yoga, or whatever else you like to do with your time.
Other popular brands are Spacefish Army, Slipins, and Constantly Varied Gear (CVG).
Unfortunately exposure protection is an extremely personal question. Every diver has a different level of tolerance to the cold.
Your cold tolerance diminishes the more diving you do. What you wear for a warm destination doing 2 dives a day will be different if you are diving 4 times a day. Here is a general guideline:
Warm Water: 27c/80f and warmer
– Rashguards, skins, no wetsuit needed
Moderate: 24 – 27c / 75-80f
– 3mm full suit
Cool: 22-24c / 70-74f
– 5mm full
Cold: <22c / 70f
– 7mm or drysuit
These recommendations are based on the average person diving more than 2 dives a day.
