Scuba MAR Maids Dive School
Welcome to our dive school!
Scuba MAR Maids Dive School exists to provide supportive, comprehensive dive training that helps divers build confidence, competence, and community. Rooted in women-centred education, we create safe spaces for learning through retreats, scuba camps, and online events, while supporting women-owned dive centres and instructors whenever possible.
Launched in 2024, the Scuba MAR Maids Dive School is a mobile dive academy. We host our events around the world! While our school is focused on supporting women, we also host coed retreats and camps a few times a year. Because learning should be fun for everyone!

SMM Dive School
This project began as a dream to offer standard PADI dive courses in a fun, supportive, and most importantly safe environment. Here’s what’s great about our dive training retreats.

About Scuba MAR Maids Dive School
2024 was the year of our first retreat, but the concept of the school is much older than that.
The women bringing this project to life!

Shevaun Fortune
IDC Staff Instructor, PADI #511174
Better known as Shev around the MAR Hosted Trips crowd, Shevaun started her PADI Pro journey in Mexico in 2021 at the same dive shop Maira started hers at. In fact, that’s how they connected!
Since then Shev has worked as an instructor in the Mexican Pacific, the islands of the East Caribbean, and in Roatan, Honduras.
Shev is our dive school director and is at all our school events to mentor you through their courses, cheer on your learning, and share her knowledge through our workshops.

Maira Rozado Thomas
MASTER INSTRUCTOR, PADI #288670
Maira first became a PADI Pro in Mexico in 2008. She worked in the industry for years, eventually working her way up to Master Instructor!
As an experienced instructor, Maira saw the gap in women getting certified as Rescue Divers, and wanted to attract more women to the course.
In 2022, she hosted her first all-women rescue diver course at a lake in Texas, and it was a huge success!
In 2024, Maira entrusted Shev with running the project, so she can focus on outreach and partnering with more women entrepreneurs!
