In April, MAR Hosted Trips headed back to one of our favourite Caribbean destinations: Roatan.
This coed trip, led by Tamara, brought together a fun and diverse group of travelers for a week of relaxed diving, great food, and even better company. Based out of Naboo Resort in West End, the group settled into the rhythm of island life quickly.
Two boat dives in the morning. Pool time in the afternoon. Exploring West End and West Bay in the evenings.
Simple, easy, and exactly what a Caribbean dive trip should feel like.

Easy Diving, Incredible Encounters
Roatan is known for its accessible diving, and this trip delivered exactly that.
Each day included two relaxed boat dives along the reef. Conditions were calm, visibility was great, and the marine life kept everyone engaged.
Boat rides vary from 2 -10 minutes. It doesn’t get much closer than that!
Diving highlights included:
- Seahorses tucked into the reef
- Eagle rays cruising by
- Turtles, moray eels, and plenty of reef life
There was also no shortage of macro critters. Some loved it more than others. Ashley made it very clear where she stood:
“I don’t want to see any shrimp!”
Safe to say… the shrimp still showed up.
A small group also headed out for a night dive, which turned into one of the standout experiences of the week. They spotted an octopus and were immersed in the famous string-of-pearls, Roatan’s unique bioluminesctens.
It was underwater magic.
Milestones, Tattoos, and Extra Dives
One of the best parts of group travel is celebrating milestones together.
Bill completed his 100th dive on this trip, and more than half the group joined him for an extra afternoon dive to celebrate. It was one of those moments that makes dive trips feel special.
And then there were the tattoos.
By the end of the week, three travelers had made their trip permanent:
- Genia chose an eagle ray
- Jen went with a seahorse
- Ashley picked a parrotfish
A pretty solid way to remember a dive trip.
For those who wanted less permanent memories of the trip, we hired local photographer and friend of MHT Gustavo to take pics of us!
We love diving with Gustavo, he captures the energy below and above water so well.

Life Above the Water
While the diving was great, the time above water was just as memorable.
Days started with breakfast at the resort and wrapped up with group dinners that often stretched for two hours or more. The conversations, laughs, and stories became a highlight of the trip.
A few standout moments:
- Anthony’s Chicken in West End
- $10 pizza night at Bananarama
- Pool days at the resort gave everyone time to relax and recharge
And then there were the moments you cannot plan.
Like Queenie casually educating Debi on the business of selling feet pics and… other online ventures. Not your typical dive briefing conversation, but definitely one of the funniest.

A Group That Made the Trip
What really made this trip stand out was the group.
From day one, everyone clicked. It was easy, relaxed, and full of laughter. Whether it was underwater posing for photos, brainstorming social media content, or just sharing meals together, the energy stayed high all week.
Even those who originally passed on having an underwater photographer quickly changed their tune when a camera showed up. Suddenly, everyone had a pose ready.
It became a running joke and one of the most fun parts of the trip.
Why We Love Roatan
Roatan continues to be one of our favourite destinations for a reason.
It offers:
- Easy, enjoyable diving
- Great marine life
- A fun and social atmosphere
- The perfect balance of diving and downtime
It is a destination where you can improve your skills, log great dives, and still have plenty of time to relax and connect with your group.
Another Trip Wrapped
This April trip to Roatan was everything a MAR Hosted Trips adventure should be.
Great diving. Fun nights out. A few unexpected moments. And a group that turned into friends by the end of the week.
From 100th dives to first night dives, from eagle rays to inside jokes, this trip had a bit of everything.
And if you ask the group, they would probably tell you the same thing:
They would do it all over again.

Upcoming Trips to Roatan
We go to Roatan at least once a year to offer a light, easy trip that’s perfect for building confidence and dive skills.
Roatan is a trip we suggest to new divers looking to get their logbook built up, solidify their diving routine, and fine tune their skills.
But its also a destination still loved by experience divers who just want to be under the water and enjoy.
